Our policy

We welcome everyone to the Imperial Hotel, irrespective of age, race, class, sexual orientation or disability. We aim to cater for the needs of visitors generally not requiring wheelchair access. The following is a summary of our provision. All our staff are aware of and sensitive to the needs of people with disabilities we welcome all questions and are always pleased to help and assist wherever we can.



Pre Arrival

There is a very good bus service to the centre of Merthyr Tydfil, the bus station is about half a mile away in the very centre of town. The train station is 5 minutes away by car. Most local taxi services have accessible cars and we can arrange a booking for you.

We have a website in English however English, French, German and Portugese are spoken and whilst we do not produce printed brochures we can send hard copies of any part of the site or we can tell you about our accommodation on the telephone.

Arrival

We are at the top of a slight hill leading from the town centre, our property is accessed via the front door which is one step up from the pavement about 10 cm high and there is no gate. There are basic but limited hotel car parking facilities available but free on street parking and pay on display for longer periods.

Access to our reception is suitable for wheelchairs. We have had guest’s stay that use a wheelchair as conveyance but who are also able to negotiate stairs with assistance.



Entrance & Reception

The front door is very wide and leads into a hallway with a further inner door, this is locked outside of our normal public house trading hours but we do have a push button bell which is easily reached. There are no grab rails available. There are public toilets on the ground floor.

The hallway is carpeted throughout and there is exposed wood flooring in the bar area/ sitting room.



Public Areas and Bedrooms - General

We have 7 rooms located on the top (2nd) floor. There are no rooms on the ground or first floor. There are 15 steps to the first landing and a further 15 steps to the landing on the second floor.

All stairways have firm handrails or grab handles. All internal stairs and corridors are carpeted with deep pile carpets, they are well lit with bright clean decor throughout.



Bedrooms

We have a mixture of Single, Twin, Double and Family rooms available. All rooms have en suite shower facilities.

There are no grab rails in any of our shower rooms. There are remote flat panel TV in all rooms with Digital Freeview TV.



Breakfast and Sitting rooms

The breakfast room and the reception / guest lounge are on the ground floor.

Breakfast is served in the breakfast room on the ground floor.

Menus are provided in large print but we are always pleased to take time to go through the menu with any guest and provide a verbal list of all available options. With advance notice we are pleased to cater for any special dietary requirement including vegan, dairy-free, wheat-free and gluten-free. We play light classical music in the breakfast room.



General

Assistance dogs are welcome as well as your favourite pet - but please do speak to us first.

We provide wireless internet access throughout the building and there is a small but one off charge for access, mobile phone reception is generally very good. We have a formal professionally prepared fire risk assessment plan in place and fire evacuation plans which are checked and rehearsed at regular intervals. Should you require assistance with evacuation please let us know on arrival and we will ensure you are shown the areas.

Smoking IS permitted in rooms and in designated zones.

We offer secure storage for your bicycles.

We are only one mile from the Prince Charles Hospital.

Public parks are nearby, and we are very close to all local attractions - we will be pleased to let you have literature for all attractions as well as local maps.
